Splashing over

I was reading I Thessalonians this morning in the Message Bible.  The introduction said that the way we conceive the future, sculpts the present, gives contour and tone to nearly every action and thought through the day.  If our sense of future is weak, we live listlessly.  Much emotional and mental illness and most suicides occur among men and women who feel that they have no future.

Then I read on and in Chapter 3:11-13 I read this:  "May God our Father himself and our Master Jesus, clear the road to you!  And may the Master pour on the love so it fills your lives and splashes over on everyone around you.....May you be infused with strength and purity, filled with confidence in the presence of God our Father when our Master Jesus arrives with all His followers."

I love that line about love "splashing over" on everyone around you.  I confess that I don't always allow the love in me to splash over on everyone around me.  I say I love, but often my actions don't show it.  When I find I am "living listlessly" like it said in the first paragraph, if I truly examine myself, I can clearly see that I am not letting love splash over on other people.  That is the key, really.  When I concentrate on others, I tend to be less needy.  It's weird but I find that if my focus is on someone other than myself, I am much more fulfilled!! 

My prayer today is for you to pour on love to those around you...let it splash on them.  Let it drench them.  When you do that, you will definitely get wet too!
