Predators in Disney World

It was a lovely day in Disney World.  We went to Animal Kingdom, our favorite park.  There was a beautiful, shady lagoon where we loved to go just to sit and relax and people watch.

One day we were sitting there, enjoying the solitude, when all of a sudden out of the underbrush came the most darling little bunny.  It hopped around the area, seemingly oblivious to all of the people sitting there watching him.  It seemed as if he knew that we wouldn't bother him.  He was carefree and happy as he hippity hopped all around.

All of a sudden out of nowhere swooped a gigantic hawk and before the bunny had time to twitch his little nose or fluffy white tail, the hawk had him in his talons and was gone.

While the bunny was hopping around everyone was oohing and aahing.  When the hawk swooped in and grabbed that sweet little bunny everyone's ahhs turned to "OH NOS!!!""

How sad that such thing could happen in of all places the happiest place on earth...Disney World.

Hand Prints

Many years ago, my sister, Millie, was invited to go to a shower at a fancy home in Johnson City, TN.  We would have called it a mansion back then, but it looks like most homes being built today!

While she was there, the hostess asked if she would like to see the rest of the house and of course Mille said, YES!

During the course of the "tour" the lady took my sister up the staircase to the second floor.  Millie noticed that all along the wall beside the staircase were smudges and hand prints.  The hostess said, "if  you wonder what those handprints are, they are my children's hand prints.  After they were grown and we painted the wall, I couldn't bring myself to paint over them."

I love that story.   Have you ever thought that a dirty handprint might just be a thing of beauty?  My sister's friend did.

Diaper in the parking lot

Since Christmas, there has been a diaper in the parking lot of the church next to us.  It was left there after a Sunday night service right up next to the curb where the cars park.

I know what you are thinking.  "Why don't you pick it up?"  We will end up doing just that, but for now it has become kind of a game to us to see how long it will stay there.  We make predictions about it all the time:

"When we are gone from this planet, and someone 200 years from now finds that diaper, wonder what they will  think it is?"
"Wonder if it will eventually petrify or turn into concrete?"
"If the same person who put it there parks there Sunday after Sunday, do they even notice?"

You get the picture.  We are constantly talking about that diaper.  In our big snowfall awhile back, we wondered if it would still be there when the snow melted...YEP!

Mowing season is about to begin, so of course one of us will pick up the diaper.  I am sure our eyes will go to that spot over and over even after it is gone.  The landscaping is really pretty in our yard, but our eyes first and foremost always go to that diaper.

Do you have a ticket?

My adopted son, Greg Moffatt, told me a story several years ago that I want to share with you.

He was working  security for a concert in Atlanta during the Olympics. One of the other security team came up to him and told him there was a very smelly "bag looking" lady who wanted to come in for the concert.  Greg asked his co worker if the lady had a ticket.  The guy replied "yes, but she is filthy and she stinks."  Again, Greg asked him if she had a ticket.  "yes, but she has all her worldly possessions with her and she stinks."  Once more Greg said "does she have a ticket?"  Yes.  "Then let her in."

We have quoted Greg so many times after hearing that story.  We talked about how it doesn't matter how stinky we are if we have a ticket.

This past week, we went to Tommy's 55th reunion from college.  When we got there and started to go in, our friend Larry Green asked us if we had a ticket!  (Sound familiar?)

A ticket?  NO.  We didn't know we were supposed to have one!  Guess Tommy didn't read the fine print!  We also didn't have a name tag.  When Tommy went to get our name tag, there was nobody at the sign in table any longer, so he came back empty handed.

Larry just laughed and told us to go on in.  Maybe it was because we weren't stinky.  Or just maybe it was because we knew the gatekeeper.
