The dead bird

​When the boys were little, one day they came running and told us they had found a dead bird.  Of course they insisted on a funeral, so that's what we did.  We sent that little bird on to bird heaven with a very nice funeral and a nice burial plot in their grand parents back yard.  

The next day I noticed the boys digging where the grave was located.  I went out and asked what they were doing.  They replied that they just wanted to see what the bird looked like once more.  I told them to cover the bird and leave it alone.  They did.

The next day...same scenario.  I looked out and the boys were digging again.  "Mommie.  The bird looks weird!"  "It's because he is dead boys!  Cover him up and let him rest in peace!"  About a week later, they were at it again.  This time the smell was enough to make them stop pretty quickly and that was the end of digging up the dead bird.

How many times in my life have I kept digging up dead birds?  If a bird is dead, digging it up won't bring it back to life.  It will never fly again and it certainly won't start smelling better.  

So, my advice?  After burying a dead bird, leave it alone and don't go digging it up again.
